St. Joseph Hospice and Lyman Senior Center host cookout for law enforcement and seniors
St. Joseph Hospice, along with Lyman Senior Center, hosted a cookout honoring Older Americans Month and local law enforcement.
Each year in May, Older Americans Month is celebrated to encourage and recognize the countless contributions that seniors make to our communities and how their time, experience, and talents enrich the lives of those around them.
May is also Law Enforcement Appreciation Month. Law enforcement officers put their lives on the line each day to keep people safe. To celebrate the seniors and show appreciation to law enforcement, hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, and cookies were served at the senior center. St. Joseph Hospice Volunteer Coordinator Rhonda Watt said, “The seniors give all their lives, they work in the community. They have retired now. They need to enjoy themselves. They have a month and May is their month to come out and do different things and enjoy themselves. So, this is our way of helping them and the law enforcement, May is their month too. So, we are just honoring them and thanking them for everything they do for their service.”
St. Joseph Hospice served more than 300 meals.
