SRHS Lawsuit Attorneys Say More Information is Needed

No word yet on who will be appointed by the state Supreme Court to preside over more than 200 state cases in the Singing River Health System pension plan lawsuit.
One of the plaintiffs’ attorneys, Harvey Barton, says he hopes that more information will be turned over and released before any permanent decisions are made in regards to the 3,100 pension plans that hang in the balance.
Judge Breland Hilburn recused himself from the 200 plus cases being handled by Barton and fellow attorney Earl Denham but the two attorneys plan to appeal to the state Supreme Court to have him removed from all cases.
Other plaintiff’s attorneys have submitted a proposed class action settlement that could impact all 3,100 retirees, that is if a federal judge approves it at an upcoming fairness hearing. “I’ve requested publicly and privately a number of times, if there are expert reports and accountants analyses of why this $153 million settlement is such a good deal, I’d love to see it,” said Barton.
Attorneys who drafted the proposed class action settlement say they believe their proposal is in the best interest of all Singing River retirees. Federal Judge Louis Guirola is scheduled to hold a fairness hearing on the proposed settlement on May 16th this year.
