Special Session Possible for BP Money
Going into the 2016 legislative session, Coast Republicans and Democrats promised to band together to keep BP oil spill money here on the Coast.
That effort became delayed because the money did not make its way to the state in time for its allocation to be decided upon by legislators.
Now one of two things can happen: it can be put off until next year or, in something Coast lawmakers are hopeful for, Governor Bryant could call a special session this summer.
Coast lawmakers maintain regardless of when the decision is made, it will be difficult garnering support throughout the state and is likely to spark much debate throughout the state. They’re hoping to get leadership on their side.
Coast lawmakers tell News 25 they are dedicated and committed to working together to keep as much of the BP money on the Coast as possible.
