Special election set for Diamondhead mayor post

Diamondhead residents will head to the polls next month in a special election to elect a new mayor.

A nonpartisan special election will be held on Tuesday, September 15^th to fill the seat which was left vacant when Mayor Tommy Schafer died on July 31^st following complications from surgery.

Schafer was elected as the city’s first mayor in 2013 and reelected to a second term in 2017.
