Southern Youth Commission March
A newly formed group, the Southern Youth Commission, came together on Saturday to do a march in protest of the state flag being flown in front of Ocean Springs City Hall.
A year ago, when Mayor Shea Dobson was elected, one of his first official actions was to put the Mississippi state flag back in front of city hall after it had not been there for 12 years. The members of the Southern Youth Commission and other members of the community feel that while the flag is flying, not everyone will feel welcome in the City of Ocean Springs.
Participants chanted and gave speeches about Civil Rights and what they believe should be done about the flag. Even when it started to rain, they marched on.
The Mississippi Rising Coalition also participated in the march.
