Southern Miss to face off against Miami in Hattiesburg Regional Championship
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WXXV)- The Southern Miss Golden Eagles rose to the occasion on Sunday, going 2-0 against their Hattiesburg Regional opponents.
Southern Miss clawed their way back ‘to the top’ of the loser’s bracket, defeating both Columbia and Miami in back-to-back games on Sunday.
The Southern Miss bats heated up in the eighth inning against Columbia, scoring three runs, and then they remained hot leading into game two, putting up a nine spot in the first inning alone against Miami.
After 8-1 and 17-6 wins on Sunday, the Golden Eagles know exactly what they did to do to make Monday’s mission complete. Head Coach Christian Ostrander said, “These guys know what’s at stake. You’re a win away from hosting a Super Regional, and that’s pretty cool. That’s hard to do and hard to get to that point, but we know it’s going to be a dog fight. I recall the ’21, ’22, ’23 post-season years where they had to go out and win two games on day three, and they did that and they achieved that. This team is writing their story. Monday is chapter 63, and I can’t wait to watch them compete. Regardless of what that scoreboard says at the end of the year, these guys are going to go out and fight and I know that. We’re very proud to know that too. Proud of these guys and what they’ve done.”
On Monday, the Golden Eagles will be fighting for more than a regional title, but a chance for more post-season baseball at The Pete by hosting a Super Regional.
The game time for Southern Miss vs. Miami will be 8 p.m. Monday night.
