Southern Miss spring football underway

Spring football is also underway for Southern Miss where it’s back to the basics leading up to Jay Hopson’s third season at the helm.

The Golden Eagles got to work Tuesday and just wrapped up their second session this evening. One of the big takeaways thus far is the absence of senior quarterback Quadra Griggs who has been on the sidelines working out with the other injured players.

While QB depth appears to be a strong suit for USM this season, all position groups are on the grind this week. “I think Spring is always about fundamentals. To me, that’s what spring is. You just want to see your team get better, and you want to see them grow each day,” said Hopson.

Running back Tez Parks said, “Well, the goal in Spring football is to get better, make sure everybody gets better, make sure everybody knows what’s going on so we can get ready for Fall, so we can get ready for the season coming up. Spring is all about competing, it’s all about competition. You’ve just got to go in there and earn your spot, nothing is given. So Spring football is really important.”

USM has 13 more NCAA allowable practices leading up to the annual Black and Gold game on April 21st.
