Southern Miss rested for North Texas

There are two schools of thought when it comes to bye weeks: they either come at a good time or a bad time. For Southern Miss, it’s a chance to get rested and healthy, but at what cost in terms of momentum.
The Golden Eagles came back from their season opening loss to Kentucky with back-to-back wins over Southern University and Louisiana-Monroe. They now enter conference play with a record of 2-1, two weeks removed from their last victory come Saturday’s game versus North Texas.
The offense, especially, was really starting to click at ULM and the man in charge of that offense has seen this thing play out both ways. Southern Miss Offensive Coordinator Shannon Dawson said, “To answer that question, I don’t know until we play. Sometimes you have an off-week and it helps, and sometimes you have an off-week and you go out there and you can’t get a first down. So, we’ll see how our speed and tempo is. More importantly, I think this week’s practice is probably more important than last week’s practice as far as let’s get out there and get kick-started again. Cause the mentality is different when you don’t play a game on Saturday, it just is. There’s no way around it.”
USM and the Mean Green get things kicked off from MM Roberts Stadium at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
