Southern Miss QB Kwadra Griggs suspended indefinitely
The Southern Miss qb depth chart got a little smaller over the weekend as redshirt senior and returning starter Kwadra Griggs was suspended indefinitely.
Southern Miss held its media day Saturday afternoon announcing the suspension pending as a resolution of a student conduct matter. This leaves the starting job up for grabs for sophomore Jack Abraham, redshirt freshman Marcelo Rodriguez, and Tate Whatley. In last Saturday’s scrimmage, Abraham took snaps with the first team.
As of right now, it seems the NWCC transfer earned the starting job in the season opener against Jackson State. USM Offensive Coordinator/QB Coach Shannon Dawson said, “He’s been around similar offenses a lot and so he picks up on things very fast. The learning curve for that kid has been very short.”
USM Head Coach Jay Hopson said, “Jack is one of those really smart cerebral quarterbacks. He reminds me a lot of Nick. He’s doing a good job.”
Last year at NWCC, Abraham threw for nearly 3,000 yards with 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
