Southern Miss pitcher named Pitcher of the Year
When it’s all said and done, Nick Sandlin will go down as one of the best players to ever grace the diamond at Southern Miss. His banner season has been one for the ages and it didn’t go unnoticed.
Today, the second-round pick of the Cleveland Indians was named National Pitcher of the Year by Perfect Game and Rawlings. From closing pitcher to Friday night starter, the ace of the staff was lights out during his junior season, posting a perfect 10-0 record across 15 outings.
The Ferriss Trophy winner really separated himself with a 1.06 ERA and a .71 whip, both of which lead all of division I baseball this season.
Just look at Sandlin’s haul for the entire day, taking home five different accolades from four different publications.
In addition to National Pitcher of the Year, he was selected first-team All-America by Perfect Game and Rawlings, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, and D1Baseball.com, as well as first-team All-South Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Not to be left out, Luke Reynolds is the recipient of second-team honors from those same four outlets.
Finally, sophomore sensation Matt Wallner joins the party with a pair of All-America selections at two different positions as well as first-team All-South Region with Sandlin and Reynolds.
