Southern Miss linked to Sun Belt rumors

When Texas and Oklahoma made their power play to the SEC, they started a game of dominoes that’s only just begun.

Now caught in the crossfire, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.

As first reported by the Athletic, the Sun Belt is targeting Conference USA schools like USM, Marshall, and Old Dominion.

That coming in response to Monday’s report from Yahoo Sports that six C-USA schools are expected to apply for membership in the American Athletic Conference and that the league is likely to accept those applications.

That would leave C-USA without Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Rice, UAB, and UTSA.

Geographically, Southern Miss would make a ton of sense in the Sun Belt as opposed to the geographic challenges posed by staying in the C-USA.

FCS James Madison and FBS independent Liberty are emerging as key players for C-USA that could be added in the next two weeks.
