Southern Miss lands Brookhaven duo
Up in Hattiesburg, Jay Hopson had a productive day at the office, signing a mixed bag of eight high school kids and seven JUCO level products.
Headlining the former are Brookhaven standouts JJ Jones and Trace Clopton who both had their pick of the litter when it came to division I offers.
Today, they put their respective names on the dotted line and couldn’t be happier about joining the Southern Miss family. “Oh, it’s exciting. It’s extremely exciting. We’ve worked forever for this and to get it finally official and done on paper it’s a great feeling, big feeling of relief,” said Clopton.
Jones said, “I mean he’s a cornerback guy so I mean he’s going to push me to be harder, and he’s a good coach so that’s why I wanted to be around him. It’s a great family at Southern Miss, I mean I’m happy to be a Golden Eagle.”
Jones, a three star recruit, had other offers from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Florida State, Georgia, Louisville, Oklahoma, and Tennessee.
As for Clopton, he picked USM over the likes of Air Force, Marshall, Memphis, and Navy.
