Southern Miss hosts first Spring Football game under Head Coach Charles Huff
It was a beautiful Saturday at The Rock as fans got a glimpse of what Southern Miss Football will look like under new head coach Charles Huff at the 2025 Spring Football game. Coach Huff dressed to impress as he makes his spring debut at M.M. Roberts Stadium. His introductory team split between black and white jerseys competing in four five minute quarters
Team Black struck first in the form of Quarterback Landry Lyddy throwing a five-yard touchdown to Davis Dalton. Team White tied things up late in the fourth inning with Quarterback John White located Bralon Brown deep in the endzone for a 10-yard touchdown.
The 2025 Southern Miss Spring game ends in a tie seven to seven. Coach Huff and some of his players attended a press conference following the game. He said the next step is putting together the team.
“We’ve been able to evaluate individuals, we’ve been able to evaluate individual skill sets. Starting tomorrow, we’ve got to start building a team,” said Head Coach, Charles Huff. “Some of that means we’re going to have to bring in some other guys. Some of that means we may have to move some guys around positionally, but that’s the next phase. We kind of know as coaches now what every guy can do. It’s our job to make a decision. Can he help us, or are we going to be hindering his progress by keeping him here or leaving him at that position.”
“I’m excited about our whole offense, but the pieces I’d say excite me are probably our playmakers on the outside,” said Marshall transfer quarterback, Braylon Braxton. “You’ve got a glimpse of Bray today, Bralon Brown. You see what he can do and will be a big time playmaker for us and you know we’ve got a lot of other guys that can make plays outside as well, so I just feel like we’re going to be a tough team to game plan for when taken to a count how many weapons we have and how we can hurt you in so many different ways.”
The next time the Golden Eagles kick off at The Rock will be August 30th as Southern Miss hosts instate foe, the Mississippi state Bulldogs.
