Southern Miss football thriving in crunch time

For the first time since 2019, the Southern Miss football program is over .500 on the back of its second straight come-from-behind victory against a Sun Belt opponent.

On Saturday, the Golden Eagles down to their last chance at Texas State on fourth-and-four with 45 seconds left to go and it’s the Miracle from San Marcos, Zach Wilcke to Chandler Pittman for the game-winning touchdown.

This coming just seven days after scoring the game-winner with less than three-minutes left to go against Arkansas State in a 20-19 thriller at the Rock.

Second-year Head Coach Will Hall breaks it down. “It was just a normal four verticals concept that we read. I thought Zach did a great job of moving his eyes through it fast, which shows progression and growth. It was something we had run already earlier in the game. They really bracketed Brownlee on the bender and he went outside to Pittman and made a great play, man. And it was a great play because he did exactly what he’s coached to do, which allows his talent to take over.”

The Golden Eagles back at home on a short week tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. against Louisiana.
