Southern Miss football signed 21 of 32 possible players on Signing Day
A week ago today, the Southern Miss football program received 21 national letters of intent to fill out Will Hall’s first full Signing Day class as head coach of the Golden Eagles.
Here’s the breakdown: 17 of those 21 newcomers hailing from the Magnolia state with 11 on defense, nine on offense, and one on special teams.
A few guys transferring in from the likes of Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Memphis while USM pulls in seven junior college transfers including the nation’s top Juco wide receiver from Pearl River Community College in Taylorsville alum Latreal Jones. Coach Hall said, “Speed. Really, really fast. Great player at Taylorsville, great player at Pearl River. That’s his number one attribute, he can really run. Great ball skills, can make you miss. And like I said, man, when you sign the number one junior college player in America at any position, that’s a big deal for a Group of Five school, and we were able to do that. And Desmond Lindsey did an unbelievable job recruiting him. Might’ve helped that we have Ty Keyes here, and we have such a great history and tradition of Taylorsville kids doing so well here, but we’re excited about Frog.”
Albeit a relatively balanced signing day class, Coach Hall says the main points of emphasis were defense and post high-school experience.
