Southern Miss faithful invade MGM Park
Win or lose, there’s always been a special connection between Southern Miss baseball and its fan base even away from the right field roost of Pete Taylor Park. Today, the USM faithful made MGM Park their home away from home, painting the stands black and gold.
At least 2,000 people were in the seats for game three between the Eagles and Roadrunners, making that by far the highest attendance of the day. Why wouldn’t those loyal to the Black and Gold ride or die with their team after ripping off 14 straight wins to close out the regular season.
Southern Miss came into the C-USA Tournament boasting the longest active winning streak in the entire country and the Road Eagles showed out by going full SMTTT.
Southern Miss fan and brother of USM second baseman Matthew Guidry Tate Little said, “”Oh. I named her Michelle because one day I said to myself, where’s my shell? But so I named her Michelle.”
Southern Miss fan Ben Waddle said, “Great crowd for a Wednesday at 4 p.m., I’ll tell you what. Most people don’t get off work until 5, 5:30 and most people that are Southern Miss fans are in Hattiesburg but we had a great showing here in Biloxi, Mississippi. It’s going to be a great weekend. Hope you all make it out if you’re seeing this right now, come on out, support this team.”
“I mean, it’s just Durst. He played about three to five years ago. He dropped bombs and every time it’s just Durst,” said Little.
Earlier this season, USM had some fun with the media, dropping Matt Durst’s name into post-game interviews. Now it appears as if it’s here to stay.
