Southern Miss eyes first bowl bid since 2019 with win over ULM
HATTIESBURG, Miss. –It all comes down to this for Southern Miss, still just one win away from its first bowl game since the 2019 season.
The Golden Eagles have been oh so close the past couple weeks, losing to nine-win Coastal Carolina and nine-win South Alabama by just a combined 10 points.
Their last chance to win their sixth game comes on the road at Louisiana-Monroe, which certainly appears to be a more favorable match-up – at least on paper.
Win or lose, second-year head coach Will Hall says his team has come a long way in a short amount of time.
“That’s what I just told the players. I’m grateful for the problems we’ve solved in a short amount of time here,” said Hall. “We’ve solved a lot of problems. We came here and there were a lot of problems to be solved. I’m also thankful for the endurance we’ve had to push through problems that aren’t solvable yet with a great attitude. The first step for us as a program is to play 12 games that matter again. We haven’t done that in a long time here, and now we’ve done it. Like we’re on Game 12 and the 11th game mattered, the 10th game mattered, the ninth game mattered and this 12th game sure matters.”
Southern Miss and ULM kick things off at 4 p.m. on ESPN+ as the Black and Gold look to win their third straight regular season finale.
