Southern Miss enters new research partnership

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- Southern Miss enters into a new partnership with a company focused on the blue economy.

This partnership will be based in the heart of Downtown Gulfport.

The $25 million contract between USM and Integer Technologies comes from the Navy’s Office of Naval Research.

Through this program, the team will develop AI powered software that enables uncrewed underwater systems to make real-time decisions during undersea missions.

Moving forward, this team’s office will be based at the Roger Wicker Center for Ocean Enterprise at the Port of Gulfport.

Senator Roger Wicker reacted to the news, saying in part that “this partnership will not only advance our country’s undersea warfare projects, but kickstart the blue economy here on the Coast as a whole.”
