Southern Miss defeats #14 Alabama with a final score of 9-7.

Tuesday was an absolutely electric night at Pete Taylor Park! The Southern Miss baseball program is fresh off of a series win over Louisiana Tech, as they host the 14th ranked Alabama baseball team, who loaded the buses to Hattiesburg with just one loss on their hands.

The Golden Eagles waste no time getting things started.

With a runner at first and a pair of outs, Billy Butler and and our very own Carson Paetow both get free bases in the bottom of the first inning, and the first baseman David Gillespie doubled over TJ McCants’ head in center field to clear the bases and they put up a three spot to complete the first inning.

The Golden Eagles tack on another in the second, and the Crimson Tide responds with one in the 3rd, but designated hitter Slade Wilks really liked that four point advantage. He sends a moon shot 432 feet over the center field fence, giving the Golden Eagles a 5 to 1 lead after five complete innings.

Wilks’ bomb was not the only one of the night. The Vancleave Villian Carson Paetow also joined in on the bomb party and he sent a two-run shot to left field 376 feet. Southern Miss leading now 9 to 2.

Our former Ocean Springs Greyhound true freshman pitcher McCarty English also goes to work for a solid outing yet again, which is absolutely nothing out of the ordinary there.

The Crimson Tide tried to creep back in in the top of the ninth, but Kros Sivley shut them down and kept them at seven.

The Golden Eagles defeat the number 14 Alabama Crimson Tide with a final score of 9 to 7.

Southern Miss will kick off conference play against Marshall this weekend at Pete Taylor Park.
