Southern Miss Baseball: Nick Sandlin, Matt Wallner receive mid-season accolades
They say age is just a number. The Southern Miss baseball team would probably say the same thing considering two of their best players are under classmen.
This week sophomore closer Nick Sandlin and freshmen centerfielder Matt Wallner took home mid-season hardware from a pair of media outlets.
Sandlin has been tabbed first-team All-America by Perfect Game and Rawlings. He’s allowed just one run in 26 and a third innings this season to go along with 40 strikeouts.
As for Wallner, D1baseball.com has named him to the like for his team-leading nine home runs and .333 batting average. He’s the only freshman in the entire country to get the nod.
