Southern Miss baseball homered in nine straight games
When the Southern Miss baseball team woke up this morning, it did so in a two-way tie for first place in the Conference USA standings.
USM has the long ball to thank for that.
After their three-game sweep at Western Kentucky, the Golden Eagles have now belted at least one home run in nine straight games, the most since 10 straight in May 2017.
The ten deep flies in the WKU series, the most since cracking off the same amount at UTSA, also in May 2017.
Then 15 homers in the last five games, the most since hitting 16 in the final four games of the 2021 Oxford Regional.
Now, five of those round-trippers this week, courtesy of Christopher Sargent, who’s been named C-USA Hitter of the Week alongside Hurston Waldrep who’s been named the like for pitching, marking the first time the Golden Eagles have swept the weekly awards since 2018.
