Southern Miss baseball heading to Auburn Regional
The Golden Eagles officially have a place to land for the NCAA Baseball Tournament.
The Southern Miss baseball team held a Selection Show watch party for the 2023 NCAA Tournament at Mugshots in Hattiesburg.
The team was accompanied by hundreds of fans patiently waiting to see where their Golden Eagles would travel to next.
Named the number 2 seed, the Golden Eagles earned a spot in the Auburn Regional hosted by the national ranked 13 Auburn Tigers, paired with the Clemson Regional.
With a current record of 41-17 and a conference record of 22-8, the Golden Eagles are heading to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh straight full season. Dustin Dickerson said, “We’re super happy to get in and you know, we all thought we had a resume to host, but the committee didn’t agree so you know we’ll go to Auburn as one of the better two seeds in the country and yeah it’s gonna be fun.”
Justin Storm said, “Ready to be on the road. I’m excited for the regional. I think our fans are going to show up and show out like they did in Montgomery, so I’m just excited about it. I know it’s going to be a good atmosphere, so I’m just excited and ready to roll.”
Tanner Hall said, “I’m sure they’re all good teams… they’re in a regional so I mean can’t doubt any of them no matter what their seed is. You just have to go after all of them like they’re the one seed and we’re going to do our thing as eagles and that’s what we do.”
Niko Mazzo said, “The leadership and the maturity we have on the team really kind of gives me courage and hope that I guess we’re going to make a run.”
Head Coach Scott Berry said, “In this day of free agency, I’m very grateful to the loyalty that these players show that could have probably gone somewhere else that we see year in and year out now, but they were loyal and stayed with us for a reason.”
Game one for Southern Miss will be played Friday, June 2nd at 1 p.m. against Samford.
