Southern Miss Baseball: C-USA Champions

Behind the likes of Burdeaux, Braley, and Wallner, the Golden Eagles already wrapped up the Conference USA regular season title on Sunday and they did it outright for the first time since 2003.
After sweeping UAB over the weekend, USM now has a four game lead in the league standings, leaving Old Dominion with no mathematical chance to play catch-up. That means Southern Miss will be the top seed in the C-USA Tournament and a favorite to host a regional with a strong showing later this month.
The Golden Eagles are also flirting with history with four games left on the schedule, needing only two more wins to beat out the regular season school record of 41 wins, set by that same team back in 2003. Southern Miss Head Baseball Coach Scott Berry said, “It is a very big deal because it’s a goal that we set, one of our goals and for us to achieve it, it always feels good. I couldn’t be more proud of our club and our players, our staff, everything that went into getting us where we are. We’ve played consistent all year long. We’ve asked them to understand that steady wins the race, we don’t ride a roller coaster, and that’s exactly what they’ve done.”
Southern Miss also shared the crown with Rice in both 2011 and 2013. USM’s winning streak is now up to ten games.
