Southern Miss AD plans to interview with ECU, hasn’t accepted job

As Southern Miss eagerly awaits a potential invitation to its fourth straight bowl game, the athletic department is eagerly awaiting a potential decision from Athletic Director Jon Gilbert.

According to reports, the second year AD has been contacted by East Carolina, an older Conference USA rival, now in the American Athletic Conference.

Per the Sun Herald, the two parties have yet to meet and the Clarion Ledger says “nobody has agreed to anything yet.”

However, a source close to the situation tells News 25 Gilbert inevitably accepting the job at ECU is a likely possibility.

Gilbert replaced Bill McGillis in January 2017 and would be taking over a position with a budget double that of USM according to the 2016-17 numbers complied by USA Today.
