SOUTHERN COMPANY HOSTING ‘RESCUE RODEO’ AT PLANT WATSON

TRAINING EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAMS

Hundreds of southern company employees within the emergency response teams are on the coast this week for their annual ‘rescue rodeo.’
This isn’t your ordinary rodeo, emergency response teams from southern companies in Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia are at plant Watson in Gulfport performing safety drills.
Plant Watson’s own emergency response team performed a rope rescue assisting an impaled employee. The goal was to transport him to safety so he could receive emergency medical services.
drills like these help emergency teams think outside the box.
For example, in this instance the team had to find an alternate way to lift him to safety. Watson Plant Manager, Conrad Amos, says”we of course have a ton of hazards that’s inside of our generating facilities… we have these emergency response teams that are there just in case something goes wrong.” Southern company tries to make these practice drills look as life-like as possible, using actors and mimicking real wounds and burns with makeup and fake blood. There are 15 teams from across the south participating in the rescue rodeo.
