The Southeastern Law Enforcement Explorer Academy
Our local law enforcement officers are aiming to teach kids that cops and the community go hand-in-hand.
Nearly 100 kids from all over the southeast are learning about what it takes to be a police officer this week in Biloxi. Volunteers from Keesler Air Force Base have teamed up with the Biloxi Police Department and over ten other agencies to run day-to-day classes and exercises.
A group of police officers from London are on the Coast to help at the academy. Sgt. Steve Marks, police officer from London, said, “It’s a whole new experience being here. They meet friends that they make for life, stay in contact with each other, learn different ways of doing things and they began to realize it’s the same around the world, no matter where you go. The skills you need to communicate with people are the same and they get a lot out of it.”
The academy has been held annually for 27 years.
