South MS Planning and Development offering caregiver series for grandparents raising grandkids

South Mississippi Planning and Development is offering a new series to help grandparents who are raising their grandchildren.

SMPDD teamed up with Harrison County Advocacy Center to pilot grandparents raising grandchildren, which further extends SMPDD’s caregiver support resources in facilitating a support group that will follow a series of evidence-based programs geared to assessing the needs of grandparents raising grandchildren.

The free program includes nine weeks of sessions of fun and engaging learning experiences.

Your caregiver support coordinator will assist by developing an individualized plan based on the needs of each family. Program Liaison for Harrison County Jeannie Herrin said, “We have decided to have these education series for the community so they can come into our center and get the support they need and resources. If you are raising your grandchildren and you want to belong to a support system for nine weeks, come on out to the Harrison County Advocacy Center.”

The sessions are free with classes on March 30th, April 6th, 20th, 27th, May 4th, 11th, 18th, and June 18th.
