South Mississippi prepares for Fourth of July

Next week, the skies will light up with fireworks as South Mississippi celebrates Independence Day.

The Fourth of July holiday is next week and patriotism is flying high as firework stands pop up across South Mississippi. There’s a little something for everyone under the big tents from fireworks packed in pink to an arsenal of military style explosives that ring in at a few hundred dollars.

You can light your fireworks on the beach or any other county area. While you can’t shoot fireworks within most city limits, you can check out one of the public fireworks shows like the one set for July 4th at 9 p.m. in Biloxi.

You can also get a front row seat to the Biloxi Back Bay Fireworks show put on by the IP Casino and Scarlett Pearl Casino. It is set for 9 p.m. Sunday night on July 1st. Seating is first come, first serve.

Another option is to bring the entire family out to Front Beach in Ocean Springs on Tuesday, July 3rd. While the fireworks show is set to take place at 8:45 there will be plenty of other things on tap on Front Beach. Ocean Springs Parks and Recreation Director Geri Straight said, “We’ll have a lot of music going on. We have a DJ that will be on stage at Fort Maurepas. They’ll be playing songs for families, children, events. Everybody out, tossing their blankets out, waiting for the fireworks show to start at 8:45 p.m.”

Several other shows are set to light up the skies of South Mississippi. On Wednesday, July 4th, Pascagoula’s Independence Day festivities will kick off at 6:30 at Beach Park. They’ll wrap up the event with a 9 p.m. fireworks show.

Also on the fourth, Waveland will host its Independence Day celebration along the beach in Hancock County with the celebration launching at 5 p.m. and ending with a fireworks show around 9.
