South Mississippi IHOP manager fired over back pay

Manager speaks out over controversy

D’IBERVILLE — “We shut down the store, so they fired me,” Tyrell Clyburn, the former manager of the D’Iberville IHOP, told us that he lost his job because of back wages“We’ve been working three to four weeks straight with no pay.”

Clyburn was fired on Friday morning when he was told to hand in his keys just ahead of Father’s Day weekend.

According to the former manager, this came after he made the decision to shut down the restaurant to protect nearly 30 coworkers, who he said had not been paid their previous two paychecks and did not want to continue working for free.

WXXV went to the D’Iberville breakfast chain on Friday afternoon, where there were no customers inside and very few cars in the parking lot.

WXXV spoke to managers inside the restaurant who denied any payroll disputes or issues with employees no longer wanting to work there. They did not give any comments regarding any terminated employees.

Clyburn is trying to avoid eviction for he and his family as he waits to receive his backpay.

“I’m a family man with too much going on… begging, borrowing money, but at this point, I really don’t know what to do because we’re going to be out on the street,” Clyburn said.

Clyburn and other IHOP employees plan to look for an attorney and pursue legal action against the D’Iberville restaurant.
