‘Souper Friday’ at the Gardens Senior Living Facility in Ocean Springs

The Gardens Senior Living Facility in Jackson County delivered warm soup and treats to seniors and frontline care workers today.

The Gardens Senior Living Facility in Ocean Springs delivered ten warm Tuscan soups to seniors and healthcare professionals along the Coast as a token of appreciation.

Margaret and Donald Young are a couple who received soup from the Gardens. Gardens Senior Living Facility Community Director Valerie Demantties said, “We’ve been working with them for a while. They just recently sold their house and they’re going to become a resident with us.”

Donald built his Ocean Springs home by hand over 60 years ago. After making decades of memories in their home, the Youngs decided to sell. “We will adjust. Because of our age, we need to be somewhere.”

As they prepare for the next chapter in their lives, the Youngs say they are excited to be moving to the Gardens and to be getting some help when it comes to day-to-day chores. “I won’t have to cook. I won’t have to wash clothes and I probably won’t have to vacuum.”

But most importantly, support will be close by. “If you get sick you have somebody you can call on and we’ll be right at the hospital where our doctors are.”

The Gardens Senior Living Facility has been checking in on the Youngs, helping them prepare to move. “We encourage the seniors to come and participate in our activities and to enjoy our chef’s good cooking and for us to take care of them in a time of need.”

Delivering soup is a small gesture, but for some it’s a warm prepared meal on a cold day.
