Solemnity of St. Joseph at St. Patrick Catholic School
Today is St. Joseph Day. St. Patrick Catholic High School Invited Father Ryan on campus to bless the school and community.
Students contributed to a St. Joseph altar. The altar included pictures provided by students of their family members in need of prayer, candles, bread, and a rare relic of St. Joseph’s clothing.
The different shaped breads represent something different, a cross representing Jesus, a crown of thorns for suffering, and an alligator representing the Cajun influence from New Orleans.
The altar also included Sicilian cookies and other sweet treats. Theology Teacher Terry Creel said, “Right under St. Joseph we have a rare relic of St. Joseph’s clothing that came from the Vatican. It was something I was able to attain about 30 to 35 years ago. You can’t get them anymore. I promised St. Joseph I’d help with an altar each year and I thought it would just be baking cookies and donating a box of candles but it turned into doing the whole altar.”
