SMACM Athletix Basketball Classic returning to south Mississippi

The SMACM Athletix Basketball Classic for 7th and 8th graders is returning to Bert Jenkins Gym at Gulfport high school on January 25th.

Doors open at 10:00 A.M. and there will be a $10 admission fee for those looking to attend. SMACM Athletix CEO Shabazz McClellan began the event in 2021 and says that it’s far more than a day for sports.

“Whenever you are in a group setting like this always remember to compete,” McClellan said. “If you want to be an engineer or a doctor you are going to have to compete. They just need to know that whatever you are going to do you need to work hard at it. Just constantly telling them that because the game stops at some point so you will need to know how to do things outside of the game.”
