Slip to Ship Regatta Catamaran Races at Ocean Springs Yacht Club

The Ocean Springs Yacht Club officially kicked off their summer series of Catamaran Races this weekend, starting off with the Slip to Ship Regatta.
Every Memorial Day, sailors from all over the country are invited to one of the longest catamaran races around. On Saturday, 45 boats raced across the Biloxi Bay all the way to Ship Island, sailing about 28 miles from the Ocean Springs Yacht Club to Ship Island and back.
Ocean Springs Yacht Club Fleet Captain Jay Shuman tells News 25 it’s a popular event that all sailors enjoy. “So because of our venue here being nicely protected from the bay, we have a great sailing environment and people come here to do it and there aren’t that many places that aggressively host cat sailing anymore and we run about a half dozen regattas a year.”
The catamaran races continued Sunday with a 20 mile race from the Yacht Club going all the way around Deer Island.
