Slidell votes down $325 million casino proposal

Slidell says no to a casino proposal.

An overwhelming 60 percent of people in St. Tammany Parish who voted Saturday voted against the casino.

The $325 million hotel casino resort was to be built on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain and could have potentially taken revenue away from South Mississippi casinos, especially those in nearby Hancock County.

The casino proposal also touted a $35 million youth sports complex endorsed by Drew Brees.

Again, that casino proposal was turned down by voters over the weekend.
