Slavonian Ladies annual Pusharata Sale

The women of the Slavonian Lodge are back at it, frying and icing one of the Coast’s favorite Christmas treats all day long.

The ladies were busy all day making more than 13,000 pusharatas for their annual Christmas sale. They’ve been making these Croatian pastries for their annual sale since the 1970s.

This year, there were nearly 1,110 pre-orders.

The pastries are so popular that everyone who didn’t pre-order their pusharatas are put on a waitlist in case someone doesn’t pick up their order by 1 p.m. on the 23rd. Slavonian Lodge Ladies Auxiliary President Faye Misko said, “They were looking for a fundraiser in 1975 and some of the younger members came up with making the pusharatas. Some of the older members didn’t think they’d sell. I think they started at 50 pounds of flour. I think the most we’ve ever made was 205 pounds of flour.”

Proceeds from the pusharatas sales goes toward the Slavonian Ladies scholarship fund for graduating seniors and their monthly donations to local charities.
