Sixteen-Year-Old Donates Stuffed Animals
There was a special delivery in Jackson County thanks to a teen and all those who rallied with her to help collect teddy bears for first responders.
Inspired by a movie about Santa Claus when she was five-years-old, Makaylea Zeller gave the stuffed animals she no longer used to kids throughout the community. The tradition has continued over the years, thanks to her father, a retired law enforcement officer.
This year, with the backing of her school and classmates, Makaylea was able to hand out nearly 100 stuffed animals to law enforcement officers.
“I did this thing on the internet and it said there are researches that actually say teddy bears calm children through traumatic events, so I thought this would help,” said Zettler.
Law enforcement will use the stuffed animals to comfort children at domestic disturbance calls they respond to.
Makaylea tells News 25 she plans on continuing this tradition for years to come.
