Six-year-old injured in accidental shooting in Saucier
On Monday, July 2nd, 2018, Sheriff Troy Peterson announced that the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office responded to Reese Drive in Saucier, MS in reference to a shooting.
According to Sheriff Peterson, the shooting occurred around 7 a.m. Once deputies arrived on scene, it was determined that the parties involved were brothers, ages eight and six. Deputies discovered that the six-year-old found a gun, located in a dresser in the home, and began to play with it.
The six-year-old went to hand the gun to his brother and the gun went off. The six-year-old was air-lifted to USA Medical Center in Mobile, Al with non-life threatening injuries.
The children’s legal guardian is their grandmother. She was home at the time, but in a different room.
There are no charges being filed at this time. The Mississippi Department of Human Services was also contacted and will be conducting an independent investigation.
