Six-year-old cancer warrior surprised by Make-A-Wish

After battling cancer for over a year, one special little six-year-old’s wish is coming true. Adrianna Hitchcock, from Biloxi, and her family got a surprise from the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Gulfport today.
It was an exciting day for Adrianna. Soon, she’ll be jetting off to Disney World. It’s something she’s always wanted to do. Before she became sick, her father tells News 25 the family made plans to visit the magical place and it brings him joy to see her dream come true today.
A dream is a wish your heart makes and that dream is coming true for Adrianna Hitchcock, who just returned from the children’s hospital for cancer treatment to find out her next journey is a trip to the most magical place on Earth: Disney World.
This was a wish granted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation Thursday that even took Adrianna’s father, Michael Hitchcock, by surprise. “It’s emotional. I just love to see her smile.”
Disney princess themed gifts and treats filled the Balch and Bingham Law Firm in Gulfport, bringing the Biloxi family a more positive outlook on life than the dark one the Hitchcock’s were faced with when their six-year-old daughter was first diagnosed with stage four bone cancer. “At first, it was just like, you don’t know how you’re going to make it. How you’re going to keep going, but you have to for her. Keep her happy. That’s the most important thing,” said Michael.
Adrianna’s happiness is magical to her father after Adrianna’s battle with cancer lasted over a year. Shellie Moses with Make-A-Wish Foundation South Mississippi said, “She’s gone through so much and a lot of times that takes a toll on our children, but we’re happy to see her smiling and look forward to seeing them creating wonderful family memories.”
And family is what Michael says kept Adrianna fighting. “Spend as much time as you can with your family. It’s the best medicine I think. I mean, of course, the chemo she needs, but the support and love from everybody just makes it better.”
Aside from Disney princesses, Adrianna’s family says she also loves the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Alongside the fairy tale magical treats, there were also Ninja Turtle cookies at the party, but the biggest treat of all: Adrianna’s cancer is currently in remission.
