Six voted to Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame
According to a 2016 web article on Fox Sports, Mississippi produces more professional athletes per 100,000 residents than any other state in the country.
That makes the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame that much more exclusive for the six member class of 2019.
Today, former Major League pitcher Roy Oswalt headlined the bunch also comprised of Ricky Black, Rockey Felker, Cissye Gallagher, Wilbert Montgomery, and Richard Price.
That elite group of Magnolia state standouts is loaded with talent and even more humility. Ole Miss football legend Richard ‘Possum’ Price said, “I don’t think I was in the caliber of athletes as some of these guys that are in here. Now I’m not putting down on my ability, but I just see those guys and I think my gosh, look at him. Ole ‘Possum’ going to be up there next to Billy Shaw, Archie Manning. What more can I ask for at this time in life.”
Oswalt said, “It’s just one of those things that you don’t really believe until you’re here getting that call and telling you that you’re going to be a part of something that’s going to live on forever is just a tremendous honor. You keep looking back on the people that helped you along the way. The coaches, my parents, they took me to every game, believed in me and just getting to be a part of this is amazing.”
The hall of fame induction ceremonies for the class of 2019 will take place on August 2nd and 3rd in Jackson. That brings the total recognized to 316.
Pearl River Community College announced its class of 2018.
