UPDATE: Six people, including 7-year-old girl, killed in Clay County mass shooting that spanned three separate locations
CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV) — Six people are dead following a Friday night mass shooting in Clay County.
Authorities say the suspect, 24-year-old Daricka M. Moore, was arrested and booked early Saturday morning after shooting and killing six individuals — four of whom were family members — in three separate locations. The crimes took place in the Cedar Bluff community just outside of West Point.
In a preliminary press conference held Saturday afternoon, Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott shared that three family members were shot at the first crime scene on David Hill Road. These victims have been identified as Moore’s father Glenn Moore (67), uncle Willie Guines (55) and brother Quinten Moore (33).
Investigators then believe that Moore stole his brother’s truck and traveled to Blake Road, where he reportedly forced his way into a home and attempted to commit a sexual battery before shooting and killing a seven-year-old girl. The child was Moore’s second cousin, identified by family members as Mikiylia Guines. Statements from witnesses also indicate that a gun was held to the head of a second child, who was ultimately not shot. A third child and the mother of all three children were also present in the residence.
Moore allegedly fled to a third residence on Siloam-Griffith Road, hiding the stolen truck behind the house. He reportedly forced himself into the home and shot and killed two brothers from Columbus. They were identified as Barry Bradley and Samuel Bradley. The ages of the brothers have not been released, though one was a pastor at a nearby church.
Moore was apprehended at the intersection of Pine Grove Road and Joe Myers Road in a second vehicle stolen from the house on Siloam-Griffith Road. He has been charged with first-degree murder, but these charges could be upgraded to capital murder. He will appear before a judge in an initial hearing on Monday.
At this time, a motive for the shootings has not been determined.
