Singing River Retirees Protest Outside Hospital

Wednesday afternoon, Singing River Health System (S.R.H.S.) retirees and their family and friends protested outside of Singing River Hospital while the Board of Trustees met.

Retirees say they plan to continue to fight for their pension plan, even while the controversy is becoming muddled with lawsuits. One Pascagoula resident, who is married to a Singing River retiree, says he is worried this pension crisis may start affecting Jackson County on a larger scale. He believes if the board doesn’t act soon, Jackson County’s economy may suffer.

Eddie Manning, husband of a Singing River retiree, says, “And if we lose our pension plan, what about the businesses here just in Jackson County alone? That money isn’t going to be spent here no more. These restaurants and these businesses need to wake up and put the pressure on the Board of Trustees and the administration here at this hospital, and the Board of Supervisors.”
