Singing River Health System and MORA celebrate National Donate Life Month

April is National Donate Life Month and Singing River Health System and MORA came together to encourage organ donations and remember those who have donated organs.

Community members gathered at the flag pole to hear stories of those affected by organ and tissue donations.

People were also able to register to become an organ donor. According to statistics, one organ, eye, and tissue donor can save and heal more than 75 lives.

Ellen Duvernay is one of MORA’s heroes. She lost her daughter, Brittany, tens years ago, but because her daughter was an organ donor, she was able to save several lives. “It actually gave us comfort to know that all of Brittaney wasn’t going to be gone. She donated her two kidneys to two gentlemen here in Mississippi. Her liver went to a 34-year-old gentleman in Georgia that had three small children and both lungs went to a lady named Nancy from Dallas, Texas.”

Those interested in becoming an organ donor can go to registerme.org.
