Shuckers Team Up with Joe Horn for Make-A-Wish Foundation

Wednesday, the Biloxi Shuckers paired with a former Saints superstar to raise money for the Make-A- Wish Foundation.

Former Saints Wide Receiver, Joe Horn, signed footballs and posed for pictures to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He joined the Shuckers, who hosted the event at MGM Park. Horn says, “I’m always available when it comes down to kids that unfortunately won’t be here as long as we are, and I’m blessed to be around kids like that."

Make-A-Wish Mississippi was founded in 1984 in memory of a little girl who lived in Gulfport who was diagnosed with a life threatening medical condition. A group came together to raise funds to send her, her mother, and her grandmother to Disney World.

Shuckers team owner, Tim Bennett, has been involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation throughout his entire baseball career and says it’s an organization dear to his heart. Bennett says, "Being from Orlando, a lot of kids always say they want to go to Disney World, so I figured no matter where I’m at in the country or the world, if I can help one of the Make-A-Wish kids go to Disney World, then I sure want to do it."

Both Bennett and Horn tell News 25 by being part of a professional sports organization, it’s part of their obligation to give back to the community." Horn says, "I think all of so called ‘celebrities’ should take time away to give back."

The money raised will be used to send children facing medical complications to Disney World or grant whatever their one true wish.
