Shuckers stress the importance of sun safety
Summertime and baseball season are both in full swing and the Biloxi Shuckers want fans to stay protected from the sun this summer.
For tonight’s ‘sun safety’ themed game, booths were set up at MGM Park in Biloxi, aimed at helping the fight against skin cancer. The American Cancer Society and doctors from Singing River Health System provided Shuckers fans with information on how to keep safe from skin cancer, as well as free cancer screenings.
Super Dave from Coast 102 was at the game helping out. He was actually diagnosed with skin cancer two years ago. “I had a brown spot on my head and my dermatologist saw it and she said she didn’t like the looks of it and so we did a biopsy and it came back melanoma. It was kind of shocking, I always wore sunscreen, I’ve been very careful, but I’ve been sun burnt a lot in my life, a lot of really bad sun burns and it really adds up.”
Super Dave is cancer free now. He says the best thing you can do to stay protected is apply sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and if you see anything suspicious get it checked out before it’s too late.
