Shuckers outfielder robs home run, claims no. 1 spot on SCTop10
Much like our WXXV Play of the Day, SportsCenter’s top 10 plays are reserved for the best of the best, just on a much larger scale. Last night, Biloxi Shuckers outfielder Johnny Davis was the star of the show on both outlets for robbing a home run at the right field wall of MGM Park.
Forget the 4-1 loss, Johnny Davis just made the play of the year. “Oh, it has to be perfect. The jump has to be perfect, you have to see it off the bat correctly. Like, everything has to be perfect. You just have to turn and burn and go get it, and you’ve got to believe that you can get it,” said Davis.
In the top of the seventh, Alex Blandino sent one packing to deep right center, only to have Davis bring the would-be home run back from the dead for out number 1 and the number one play on SportsCenter’s top 10. “I’m blessed to have it on Top 10, and I just thank God,” said Davis.
It’s worth noting this wasn’t the first time Davis got some face time on ESPN. Back in July, the speedster was patrolling left field and temporarily kept a no-hitter in tact with yet another play of the year candidate, that one only good for number seven on SC top 10. This time, his claim to fame feels a little more permanent. “Oh, no doubt. That’s going to get me to the Big Leagues. That’s why I play this game, to take base hits and take home runs and help out my pitcher and help out my teammates. Like I watch it all the time, especially when I’m in there with the guys and my teammates. My teammates love it, and whatever I can do to help I love it,” said Davis.
Davis was out of the lineup today, having started every game for the Shuckers this season before tonight.
