Shuckers & N.A.A.C.P. to Host Job Workshop

The Biloxi Shuckers and the Biloxi N.A.A.C.P.’s Baseball Diversity Committee have teamed up to host the “Say Hey! Let’s Play Two!” Jobs and Opportunities Workshop, to take place Saturday, February 28th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Municipal Building, 676 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Biloxi.

Tim Bennett, co-owner of the Biloxi Shuckers, along with Shuckers General Manager Buck Rogers will be Special Guests at the event. The purpose of the Workshop is to help South Mississippi citizens and potential applicants to be fully prepared for the Biloxi Shuckers Job Fair, which will take place Saturday, March 7th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Donald Snyder Center, 2520 Pass Road, Biloxi.

For the March 7th Job Fair, the team will be taking applications and interviewing candidates for the 2015 baseball season in positions that will include concession workers, food and beverage handlers, stadium operators, ushers and usherettes, office personnel, ticket sellers, and grounds crew.

The Feb. 28th Workshop does not guarantee attendees a job position with the team, but is designed to help potential applicants gain a competitive edge for the Job Fair.

Segments of the Workshop will include:

-Sharpening one’s resume writing, job interviewing and “Dress for Success” skills
-An overview of the history of the Biloxi Shuckers, the Southern League and why Minor League Baseball is important for South Mississippi
-Lessons on “How to Watch a Baseball Game,” along with tidbit facts and misnomers about the game
-An update on the construction of the baseball stadium.

One-on-One discussions will be available to answer any questions not addressed during the body of the workshop. The “Say Hey! Let’s Play Two!” Workshop is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP at blxnaacp@cableone.net or call the Biloxi N.A.A.C.P. at 228-432-0206.
