Shuckers make 2023 MGM Park debut Tuesday

When the Biloxi Shuckers make their long-awaited 2023 debut at MGM Park tomorrow, they’ll be doing so with the number one prospect in all of minor league baseball for the first time in franchise history.

Get used to hearing the name Jackson Chourio, who was elevated to the top spot by Baseball America upon the graduation of former prospects Gunnar Henderson of the Orioles and Corbin Carroll of the Diamondbacks.

But it’s not just Chourio, the Shuckers currently rostering seven of the top 30 prospects in the Milwaukee Brewers farm system.

Shuckers Pitcher Nick Bennett has been facing them all spring and it is safe to say he’s excited for somebody else to have to pitch to Chourio and company. “Yeah, I’ve actually faced Jackson a couple times in live AB’s in Arizona during spring training, and I hope our fans are ready for a show. I think Jackson, and we have multiple other guys in the outfield, infield, catchers – I think we have a really talented roster up and down and a lot of fun guys that bring a lot of energy to the lineup which will also bring a lot of energy to the ball park, so I think the fans should be ready for a show.”

First pitch between Biloxi and Pensacola is set for 6:35 p.m.

It was a pretty good opening weekend for the Shuckers, taking two out of three on the road against the Mississippi Braves, both of those wins of the shutout variety, 3-0 in game one and 4-0 in game three sandwiched around an 11-6 defeat in game two.
