Shucker’s “Hit The Books” Campaign

The Biloxi Shucker’s “Hit The Books” reading campaign, which aims to teach local students the importance of literacy, is causing quite the impact both in the classroom and on the playing field.
19 elementary schools from across the coast are participating in the reading program and more than 10-thousand bookmarks have been provided for students.
Once teachers verify that a student has read 6 books, that bookmark can then be redeemed for free admission to their schools’ predetermined Shucker’s game, where students participate in a pre-game parade on the field.

“Minor league baseball you know, down here we have such a platform and we want to use it in a positive way. We always have to remember, our kids are where it starts at, so if we have that ability to go in there and you know whether it’s talking about health or reading or just doing positive things, we want to do that.. That was kind’ve our drive. ”
– Jenifer Truong Community Relations And Promotions Coordinator, Biloxi Shuckers

The Shuckers “Hit The Books” program was made possible in part by their partnership with Walmart.
