Shuckers Celebrate One Year Anniversary
It may be hard to believe, but the Biloxi Shuckers will celebrate their one year anniversary on Monday.
Celebrating an entire year of Shuckers baseball on the Coast, a ceremony was held today at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi. There was an anniversary cake-cutting, speeches and a chance to get an autograph from the two club players of the month.
As part of a new partnership with the museum, the Shuckers will award their top performers each month. For May it is infielder Garrett Cooper and left-handed pitcher Josh Hader.
Biloxi Shuckers Director of Media Relations and Broadcasting Chris Harris said, “To be here to celebrate the one year anniversary is certainly a tribute to all those people that made it happen. Hopefully for many years to come, we can celebrate the fifth, tenth, twentieth, fiftieth and hundredth anniversary on the Gulf Coast.”
“This team started in Huntsville and there weren’t many fans there. Coming out here nowadays, there’s three, four thousand people every game. It’s nice having a crowd behind you playing,” said Cooper.
The Biloxi Shuckers tell News 25 they’re thinking of making their official anniversary, June 6th, Mascot Schooner the Seagull’s birthday.
