Shriners Boulevard in Woolmarket closing mid-next week for drainage project

Next week, the drainage project stretching from Woolmarket Road to Old Highway 67 will cross Shriners Boulevard prompting its closure.

It is expected that 11,000 motorists will need to detour daily as the drainage improvements are made. The $1.4 million project will help the culverts drain 50 percent more storm water from residential areas.

The road was originally set to close April 1st after a detour road was being constructed, but due to last week’s rain event that project was delayed.  City of Biloxi Public Affairs Specialist Cecilia Dobbs Walton Said, “Allow time for the contractors to complete the detour road and give the staff time off for Good Friday and get back to work to close it. That work is expected to start mid-next week and that is expected to stay closed for a couple of months. Mid-summer is when it is expected to be complete.”

The detour road will be for local traffic only. No trucks.
